A very good example of a keris from the Malaysian peninsular region of Negri Sembilan, having strong Minang Kabau roots in central Sumatra. Handel in the kerdas or pistol grip form, and the top sheath in the sabit bulan or crescent moon form, is made from very well selected kemuning woods having flashings grains. The bottom stem is encased with finely repoussé silver having the lotus flower motifs with a rarely seen Chinese makers stamp at the back top.

The blade is straight or lurus, with a slim base and profile, having very well executed base features or perabots, and an overall shape or dapor called anak alang. Its features are very similar to its longer cousin, the executioner’s keris penyalang or panjang.

The use of this keris anak alang is usually reserved for high status wear, similarly to its longer cousin, the executioner’s keris penyalang.

Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers’ name. Although a kris smith or “empu” has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the Late 19th century.
