A very good and rare example of a keris from the southern Malaysian peninsular region of Selangor or Johore. With strong Bugis influences, the handle in the pistol grip or kerdas from and the top sheath in the square tebeng form, are made from hard, well selected kemuning woods with flashing grains. Bottom stem is made from angsana woods with a thick and well chiseled gilded brass ferrule or pendoko to complete fittings.

Long, thick and very sturdy blade is straight or lurus with rather plain base features or perabots, having only the picetan without any sogokans and angled sharp edges called gusen.

Pamor patterns are condense and are arranged in the mlumah technique of the kulit semangka variations. All patterns are unplanned and at the base, a peak like formation is seen called nunggak semi in Javanese or petanda in Malay.

Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers’ name. Although a kris smith or “empu” has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century.
