A fine example of a keris hilt from the island of Bali. Carved from wood, and fully encased with finely repoussed gold and silver, having gemstones studded at places, with details that shows facial and bodily features that needs added mentioning.

In the form of the Hindu deity Raksasa Prahasta who was a powerful warrior and the chief commander of Ravana’s army of Lanka. He was the son of Sumali and Ketumathi, and in his next birth, Prahasta was reborn as Purochana in the as Duryodhana’s trusted aide and was the main responsible for the Lakshagraha incident.

Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers’ name. Although a kris smith or “empu” has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 20th century.
