A very good and rare example of a keris from the eastern Indonesian island of Sumbawa. Handle in the pistol grip or kerdas form is made from well selected kemuning hard woods. The top sheath or sampir in Malay, is also made from kemuning woods with flashing grains. The bottom stem is made of angsana woods having rattan bands reinforcements. A thick brass ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Thick and very sturdy blade with a straight or lurus profile but having an angular bend called sepokal in Malay.

Pamor patterns shows a swirl like formation at the base called qul buntet, with an overall base pamor wos utah or scattered rice.

Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers’ name. Although a kris smith or “empu” has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 19th century.
