Very good and rare example of a side weapon called the wedung from the central Javanese region of Surakarta. Typical handle form is made of buffalo horn, with the wooden sheath having a buffalo horn “clip” like addition to assist in usage.

Thick and very sturdy blade with single sharp edge, having a belly and a pointy tip, has the typical characteristics of the Javanese wedung.

Pamor patterns are arranged in he mlumah technique of the kulit semangko of melon skin pamor, which is said to enhance the owner’s popularity.

Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers’ name. Although a kris smith or “empu” has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century.
