A rare form of kris from southern Sumatran regions of Riau Lingga. Handle in the typical jawa demam form, is made from natural clear rock crystal. The top sheath or sampir in Malay, is in the square tebeng form, and is made of very well selected kemuning woods with natural flashing grains. Bottom stem or gandar is made of angsana woods with tiger stripe grains. A filigree silver pendoko or ferrule completes the fittings.

Long and very sturdy blade with 9 waves or luks and a prominent spine, has very well executed base features or perabots, with the fretworks or grenengs, and the elephant trunk or kembang kacang at the gandik.

Pamor patterns are very rare, with the base showing a peak like formation arranged in the mlumah technique, and above it, arranged in the miring technique shows Islamic Arabic alphabetical and numeric scripts called wafak.

Length of blade: 14.5"
Overall length: 18"
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers’ name. Although a kris smith or “empu” has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century, with newly made hilt.
