A very rare example of a slashing keris or keris sundang, from the northern Borneo regions of Sulu. Typical handle form with the pommel in the form of the cockatoo bord and made from the rare fossilized mammoth molar. The top sheath in the square kusiwo form is made from very well selected kemunings woods. Bottom wooden stem has silver bands with a horn bottom tip.

Very long blade is straight or lurus with very well executed base features or perabots, having the brass base attachments to the hilt called the baca-baca.

Pamor patterns are not contrasting due to the absent of nickel, and arranged in the mlumah technique of the wos utah or scattered rice variations.

Length of blade: 20.5"
Overall length: 27"
Condition: Very good condition. Aside from restored minor chip at the pommel, rest is all in very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers’ name. Although a kris smith or “empu” has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century.
