A very good and rare example of a keris from the southern Sumatran regions of Palembang. Finely carved handle in the semi bird form is made from white deer horn or kijang putih. Base of hilt is having a well repoussed silver alloy ferrule or pendoko. Top sheath in the typical Palembang boat form, is made from very well selected kemuning burl woods with tight grains, and the bottom stem or gandar, made from angsena woods with well repossed silver bands.

Long and very sturdy straight or lurus blade, having a prominent spine and well executed base features or perabots.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique, of the wos utah or scattered rice variations.

Length of blade: 16"
Overall length: 19.5"
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers’ name. Although a kris smith or “empu” has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early 19th century.
