Keris Melayu Luk 9 Petola Hujan Emas.
Keris Melayu Luk 9 Petola Hujan Emas – A very and
rare example of a keris from the northern Malaysian peninsular region of
Terengganu. Handle in the jawa demam teleng form, is finely carved using
dark hardwoods called kenaung Top sheath in the Malay tebeng form
is made from well selected kemuning woods with flashing as well as a
naturally occurring contrasting grain along the middle which is called kendit
in Javanese and is highly sought after. Finely repoussed silver ferrule or
pendoko with pierced through works, and repoussed silver panels at the
bottom stem, completes fittings.
Long and very sturdy blade with very sublime 9 waves or luks is referred to as petola in Malay, in reference to a kind of fruit.
Pamor patterns are very condense and are rare to find outside Jawa. At the middle base, and arranged in the miring technique, a slim peak formation is called pamor ujung gunung, and above overall patterns shows smaller circular formations called pamor hujan emas or golden showers.
The pamor ujung gunung is said to enhance the owner’s stature, while the pamor hujan emas is highly sought after for its strong material gains.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early 19th century blade with newly made fittings.
Length of blade: 15". Overall length: 18.5".
