Keris Bugis Sulawesi Luk 7 Perak Ujung Gunung.

Keris Bugis Sulawesi Luk 7 Perak Ujung Gunung - A very good example of a keris from the southern Sulawesi region of Bugis. Handle in the kerdas or pistol grip form is made from kemuning wood with the top sheath in the typical Bugis tebeng form, made from very well selected kemuning woods with tight flashing and burl (roots) grains. Bottom stem is encased with finely repoussed silver panels at the top and bottom with floral and geometrical motifs typical of the Bugis styles. A well repoussed silver ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Very sturdy blade with 7 waves or luks and well executed perabots or base features.

Condensed pamor patterns arranged in the mlumah technique with an overall pamor kulit semangko or melonís skin pamor. All patterns are unplanned, or pamor tiban, and at the base, a peak like formation is seen and appropriate called ujung gunung or mountain peak. The pamor kulit semangko is said to enhance the ownerís popularity, while the pamor ujung gunung is said to enhance the ownerís status.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 19th century blade and wooden fittings with mid 20th century silver stem cover.
