Keris Bugis Sulawesi Sepokal Bendo Sagado Ujung Gunung.

Keris Bugis Sulawesi Sepokal Bendo Sagado Ujung Gunung - A good example of a keris from the southhern Sulawesi regions of Bugis. Handle in the kerdas form and the top sheath or sampir in the typical Bugis tebeng form, are made of hard and very well selected kemuning woods with natural flashing grains. Bottom stem is made from angsena woods with tiger’s stripe grains having a kemuning wooden bottom tip. A well reposed thick brass ferrule or pendoko to complete fittings.

Very sturdy blade with rather plain base features and an angled profile has an overall shape or dapor ccalled sepokal in Malay and is rather common to find this form from the region.

Pamor pattern are condense and are arranged in the mlumah technique showing circular formations along the middle of the blade called pamor bendo sagado (Javanese) with all patterns unplanned or pamor tiban, on one side of the blade a peak like formation is seen, which is unplanned and appropriately called ujung gunung.

The pamor bendo sagado is said to enhance the owner’s material well being while the pamor ujung gunung is said to enhance the owner’s status.

Condition: Very good condition. Aside from minor patch at the front of top sheath, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle to late 19th century.

Length of blade: 13".   Overall length: 17".
