Keris Bugsi Sulawesi Luk 9 Junjung Darjat Asihan.
Keris Bugsi Sulawesi Luk 9 Junjung Darjat Asihan – Another very good and
rare example of a keris from the southern Sulawesi region of Bugis. Handle in
the kerdas or pistol grip form and the top sheath in the typical Bugis
tebeng form, are made from very well selected kemuning woods with
flashing grains. Bottom stem is encased with well repoussed thick silver alloy
with floral and geometrical motifs typical of the Bugis styles, and rattan
wrappings at the middle. A well repoussed thick brass ferrule or pendoko
Very sturdy blade with meandering 9 waves or luks having very well executed perabots or base features typical of the Bugis styles.
Rare pamor patterns are arranged in the miring technique showing peak formations from the base upwards called the pamor junjung darjat. The base cross piece or ganjar has vertical pamor lines that somewhat merges with the blade’s pamor patterns and this has a reference called pamor asihan.
The pamor junjung darjat is said to enhance the owner’s status, while the pamor asihan is said to attract the opposite sex.
Condition: Very good condition. Aside from minor dents at the metal stem cover, rest is all n very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 19th century with newly made ferrule.
Length of blade: 14". Overall length: 18".
